A lot of comparisons have been made between the Exxon Valdez oil spill and the current Gulf of Mexico oil spill. While the two events are unique and happened under different circumstances, the best way to predict the future of the Gulf Coast is to look at the past in Alaska, and if history is any indication, the residents along the Gulf Coast are facing a tremendous environmental disaster followed by decades of legal battles against BP.
