When President Bush and Dick Cheney assumed office, they began systematically increasing the powers of the executive office. By issuing hundreds of signing statements, they managed to give their offices more power than any administration in history. When Obama took office eight years later, we assumed that he would reverse the policies and direction of the previous administration, but as we’ve seen, he’s only continued the policies of Bush and Cheney.
