Two explosions went off today at the Boston Marathon. A preliminary statement released from the Boston Police Department reports 2 dead and 23 injured.
The Associated Press reported via Twitter that two more explosives have been found near the scene of the initial explosion and officials are working to disable those devices.
Approximately three hours after the winners finished the race, there was an explosion on the north side of Boylston Street, Boston, just before the finish line.
Another explosion occurred just seconds later. The Associated Press reported authorities carrying away injured competitors and spectators to a medical tent that had been set up for the runners.
The Boston Marathon is the world’s oldest annual marathon, and one of the six World Marathon Majors. It attracts 500,000 spectators each year.
