The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) released its monthly State of the Climate report, saying that this June was the hottest June on record.

The NOAA found that “the combined average temperature over global land and ocean surfaces for June 2014 was the highest on record for the month” with a temperature of 61.2 Fahrenheit. When looking at just the ocean, “the June global sea surface was … the highest for June on record and the highest departure from average for any month,” breaking the previous record set in 1998.

The report also states that “nine of the 10 warmest Junes on record have occurred during the 21st century, including each of the past five years,” and that, excluding February when most of North America was dealing with the polar vortex, “every month to date in 2014 has ranked among the four warmest for it’s respective month. Additionally, June 2014 marked the 38th consecutive June and 352nd consecutive month with a global temperature above the 20th century average.”

The NOAA also said that the “seven warmest June global and surface temperatures have all occurred within the past decade” and that the “rate of ice decline during June across the Arctic was faster than average.”

Global warming is starting to affect our lives more and more every day. Even the National Hockey League and the wine industry are worried about warming temperatures and unpredictable weather patterns affecting their products. With so much scientific data showing that climate change is absolutely real, it’s still amazing that so many chose to deny its existence.
