Republicans are desperate to do everything they can to appear like they identify with female voters – even if it means putting out ridiculous ads like this.

In the video, a self-admitted college-aged girl is shopping for wedding dresses, except – and here’s the twist – they’re actually metaphors for political candidates! How creative! It makes sense to the addled GOP advertiser because, as we all know, women love shopping, and every woman dreams of getting married. So why not give her what she wants and remind her that Rick Scott is the only right old-white-male politician for her?

Sarcasm aside, the video stands as a frank reminder of the caricature of femininity that the GOP propagates.  And even beyond that, it’s just boring and kind of flat. How did this make it out of someone’s editing room and onto the internet? It’s a poorly conceived idea executed with cheap graphics in an attempt to achieve some patriarchal connection with potential female constituents. It’s completely cringe-worthy.
