A video of Iowa Republican senate candidate Joni Ernst speaking at a 2012 National Rifle Association event has recently surfaced and has gained a lot of attention for Ernst’s remarks that she’d use her guns to defend herself against the government.
After describing one of her guns, a “beautiful little Smith & Wesson 9mm” that goes with her just about everywhere, Ernst told the crowd,
“I do believe in the right to carry, and I believe in the right to defend myself and my family – whether it’s from an intruder, or whether it’s from the government, should they decide that my rights are no longer important.”
