Michele Bachmann and Ted Cruz have proved themselves as the bastions of GOP stupidity and insanity when they took the national stage. The newly elected Iowa senator Joni Ernst is in and will join Cruz as the new GOP nut job. These next few years should be completely horrible.
Firstly, it should be noted that something is wrong with the GOP voter base if they’re going to vote for someone just because they ride a Harley and used to cut the balls off of hogs. But that’s what got Joni Ernst elected. Republicans like Ernst are really good at making themselves look blue-collar and folksy-like.
Ernst also likes her guns. She gained national notoriety with merely two television ads where she boasts de-balling swine and takes shots at a shooting range, claiming she’ll “Take aim at Obamacare.” If you think Joni Ernst seems a tad insane right now, you’re absolutely correct.
In 2012, while speaking at a National Rifle Association event, Ernst said that she would use her guns to protect herself from the government.
“I do believe in the right to carry, and I believe in the right to defend myself and my family – whether it’s from an intruder, or whether it’s from the government, should they decide that my rights are no longer important,” said Ernst.
There’s a disconnect in the Republican brain that fails to process the fact that the government is not going to take away our rights nor take away our guns. However, Ernst’s loco-motive hasn’t pulled into the station quite yet. There’s more to this “onion of crazy,” as DNC Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman-Schultz puts it.
Ernst gets really extreme about the Affordable Care Act. At the 2013 Des Moines Conservative Breakfast Club, Ernst lamented the ACA and those who “leech” off the government program. “We’re looking at Obamacare right now. Once we start those benefits in January, how are we going to get those people off those [benefits].”
What’s more, Ernst said that people should stop relying on government for help and start going to charities and churches for help. As if praying ever helped anybody with heart failure.
Ernst will surely become the new GOP crazy person, the female Ted Cruz many have said. Hopefully, still, perhaps she will become the future of GOP gaffes and soundbites, creating something that the whole country will laugh at instead of fear.
