While the 2016 presidential election is still more than a year away, that hasn’t stopped the speculation over who is going to throw their hat in the ring. So far on the GOP side, the most likely contenders include Sen. Rand Paul (KY), former governors Jeb Bush (FL) and Mike Huckabee (AR), failed presidential candidate Mitt Romney, and now Sen. Marco Rubio (FL).
It had previously been thought that Rubio might hold off on a bid given Bush’s intention to run, but one of his senior advisors told ABC News that Rubio instructed his staff to “proceed as if he is running for president.”
ABC also reported that Rubio is planning to skip all votes in the Senate next week and will go on a fundraising tour through California, Texas, and Chicago.
In other words, he’s going to stop doing the job he was elected to do to focus on a job he might not, and most likely will not, get.
Watch ABC News’ coverage of Rubio’s plans.
