Alabama was on track to become the 37th state to allow same-sex marriages. That didn’t settle too well with Alabama Supreme Court Justice Roy Moore. Moore said last week that he felt he was acting within his authority as Alabama Supreme Court Chief Justice when he ordered state probate judges to refuse issuing marriage licences to gay couples.
His justification was that redefining marriage is not a power the federal government has over state governments and that it would inevitably lead to marriages between “men and their daughters or women and their sons.”
When asked by ABC about whether he would end up on the wrong side of history, Moore responded “absolutely not.”
