Remember #thedress? The left field Tubmlr post that became an online sensation for inane reasons? Well, the Salvation Army of South Africa has decided to use the dress to illustrate the problem of domestic violence awareness.
On Friday, the Salvation Army posted the picture of a young woman wearing the dress covered in bruises with the text “Why is it so hard to see black and blue?”
Below that it reads:
“The only illusion is if you think it was her choice. One in 6 women are victims of abuse. Stop abuse against women.”
The response to the tweet has been staggering. Carin Holmes, the PR Secretary for the Salvation Army in South Africa told CBS News, “We are honored to be able to bring awareness of this huge atrocity to the world.”
