Every time Republicans get into some hot water over something they’ve done, they blame President Obama. Now that the GOP faces harsh criticism over its open letter to Iran regarding nuclear talks, they’ve retreated to that tired excuse.

“I also understand the frustration when the president has done everything in his power to prevent awareness on the part of congressional leadership on exactly what the terms under consideration are, or his willingness to sit down with Congress and talk about the legislation they are trying to pass right now,” said former New York Governor George Pataki (R).

“I think if we had a president who had engaged more in understanding that Congress has a very critical role in all elements of government, we could avoid this type of sad situation.”

Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-IL) said “the letter might never had been written had the administration been more open with members of the Senate and members of the House about what was going on.”

Other than making the Republicans look like traitors who embarrassed the United States on the international stage, the letter also made the GOP look unknowledgable about our own laws. In response to the letter, Iranian Foreign Minister Dr. David Zarif pointed out the GOP’s ignorance of international and Constitutional law.

“I should bring one important point to the attention of the authors and this is, the world is not the United States, and the conduct of inter-state relations is governed by international law, and not by US domestic law,” said Zarif.

He added that “not only do [the authors] not understand international law, but [they] are not fully cognizant of the nuances of their own Constitution when it comes to presidential powers in the conduct of foreign policy.”

Once again, the Republicans have succeeded at making a mockery of the United States in front of the entire world. It’s also embarrassing that other world leaders have a better grasp of the American Constitution than conservative, American politicians. If not treasonous, then the Republicans are pathetic and laughable.

The Republicans are breaking international decorum for the sake of domestic obstruction. And when they get called out for their actions, they automatically shift the blame onto the president.
