White collar crime often goes unpunished, but even when it is, the cost is usually civil and the pain for the perpetrator subsides once the check they had to write is cashed.
State Representative Mike K. McKell wants to change that in the state of Utah. The Republican representative introduced and passed a bill that creates a registry for second degree felonies of financial fraud. Like sex offenders before them, the insidious white collar criminals, mortgage loan fraudsters, insider traders, and the like will be searchable through an online index.
The Utah registry will be the first of its kind in the nation. Individuals looking to find out about offenders in Utah will be able to find out an offenders date of birth, height, weight, eye and hair color, and a recent photograph of the offender.
