During the monologue on last night’s episode of his talk show, Conan O’Brien made a joke about former vice president Dick Cheney.
Actor Sean Penn brought Cheney back up during his segment and talked about how unfair it was that someone like gay rights activist Harvey Milk was assassinated while Dick Cheney is still with us.
Penn said,
“You mentioned Dick Cheney, this kind of, you know, embittered bacteria of humanity. It’s always a surprise to me to remember that, through bionic technology and so on, this guy’s still here … But then we have people like Harvey Milk, who were beautiful, brilliant, impactful guys, and, you know — it’s just no good deed will go unpunished. And then you’ve got the Cheneys… This is me just musing.”
The outspoken actor did, however, offer up some thanks to the Bush administration.
“These are the guys, he and President [George W.] Bush and some others, who invented Daesh, or ISIS,” Penn said. “I mean, they really are that which created it, and so I wanted to give him a shout-out. Thanks for that.”
