When Ted Cruz announced his decision to run for president, Tea Party conservatives thought their party had hit a home run. However, not every Republican relished the idea of “President” Cruz. Rep. Peter King (R-NY) absolutely hates it.

“We need intelligent debate in the country. Ted Cruz may be an intelligent person, but he doesn’t carry out an intelligent debate,” said King. “He oversimplifies, he exaggerates and he basically led the Republican Party over the cliff in the fall of 2013. He has shown no qualifications, no legislation being passed, doesn’t provide leadership and he had no real experience. So, to me, he is just a guy with a big mouth and no results.”

Here’s King’s interview with Wolf Blitzer.

King added that if Cruz won the Republican nomination, he would “jump off [a] bridge.”

We agree: Ted Cruz would be a horrible president.

Being an establishment conservative, King released a statement after Cruz’s announcement describing Cruz as a “carnival barker.” In King’s eyes, Cruz is not a “real conservative” because Cruz is an insane Tea Partier. He said the only way he’d support Cruz is if Cruz altered his politics to reflect the establishment. Until then, Cruz won’t get King’s support.

“It’d be very difficult,” said King. “Maybe he can go on the road to Damascus, he can have a complete conversion. But the way it is right now, it’d be very difficult to support Ted Cruz.”

Cruz will almost certainly fail to win the Republican nomination when all is said and done. He probably won’t make it past the primaries. Cruz’s announcement and all the fanfare that came with it is just a giant spectacle.
