To me, he’s just a guy with a big mouth and no results…”

By now, you’ve heard that Ted Cruz thinks he’s running for president in 2016. Ted Cruz’s entire political career has been marked by opposing progress. He has no significant legislative or leadership record to speak of. But let’s be clear: Ted Cruz is not a serious candidate. He is not a serious politician.

He is a serious pain in the ass.

His own party rejects him, and that rejection highlights the schism inside the Republican party. In an interview with CNN, Rep. Peter King said that Senator Cruz is just a “big mouth” who has “basically led the Republican Party of the cliff.”

“To me, he’s just a guy with a big mouth and no results,” King said.

Cruz is kidding himself, playing out the fantasy of his ridiculous supporters.

Cruz appeals to a far-right moral conservative base that others in the party tend to be more distanced from. He is more akin to Dr. Ben Carson in the reasons for his political rise. Neither Carson nor Cruz is a legitimate potential contender though.

Both lack the political power to rally the social conservative base of the Republican party in a serious way. He’s virtually hated by the party at large. What Cruz is banking on is that the fundamentalist branch of the GOP will be strong enough to win out against the moderates of the party.

It won’t be. He will lose.

Beyond this, his positions are pathetic. Take healthcare as an example: Ted Cruz wants to repeal Obamacare and replace is with nothing. That’s an irresponsible tactic that fits perfectly with Ted Cruz as a congressional politician who would rather make philosophical grandstands than pass meaningful legislation. As a potential president, his position is wholly unacceptable.

It becomes clear that Cruz will stop at nothing to drive his esoteric positions home. He is willing to divide and ransack his own political party to gain headlines. As a president, he would almost certainly be willing to rip apart this nation to garner himself more attention.

While it may be getting him attention from fundamentalist extremist conservatives, it won’t play well on the national stage with voters.

Ted Cruz is kidding himself and playing out the fantasy of his ridiculous supporters. Ted Cruz will lose.
