Officer Michael Slager of the North Charleston Police Department in South Carolina shot and killed an unarmed African American man while attempting to flee, reported The Post and Courier.

Slager shot at the victim Walter Scott, father of four, eight times and struck him five. An anonymous bystander filmed the entire incident that showed Scott fleeing on foot from Slager. However, Slager didn’t chase after Scott; he drew his gun and fired.

According to Slager’s account, Scott attempted to grab his taser and Slager said he “feared for his life.” The video showed that was untrue. This officer shot a non-threatening, unarmed man and attempted to cover it up.

Slager has been officially charged with murder. If convicted, he faces 30 years in prison or the death penalty.
