Will South Carolina and other southern states do the right thing and take down the Confederate flag? Without doubt, the flag is a symbol of the oppression and degradation of black Americans. Individuals defending the Confederate flag claim that it represents “history, not hate” and hope to muddle the argument. Claims that the flag has been misappropriated or stolen by hate groups are simply incorrect.
