Senator Rand Paul says the government needs to get out of the marriage business now that marriage equality has been mandated by the U.S. Supreme Court. Paul says the government should no longer be entitled to license marriages, just as they should not license guns.

In defending his remarks, Paul stated:

The Constitution was written by wise men who were raised up by God for that very purpose. There is a reason ours was the first where rights came from our creator and therefore could not be taken away by government. Government was instituted to protect them. We have gotten away from that idea. Too far away. We must turn back. To protect our rights we must understand who granted them and who can help us restore them.

Basically, Paul is saying that after thousands of years of civilization, all of which had laws, it was America that God chose to select white men to provide the ultimate wisdom to form real laws. Not sure how Moses and The Ten Commandments fit into this argument. According to Paul, because God is the one who created the U.S. Constitution through his prophets (select, intellectual, white, men, aka Founding Fathers), the Supreme Court is without power to legalize marriage for homosexuals.

And this person is actually running for President?
