Caitlyn Jenner’s speech at the ESPY Awards in Los Angeles was the first major public appearance for Jenner since coming out as transgender. Jenner took the opportunity to discuss the world trans people find themselves in and the things that the community still needs.
“Trans people deserve something vital, they deserve your respect,” she said. “If you want to call me names, make jokes, doubt my intentions, go ahead, because the reality is, I can take it,” said Jenner. “But for the thousands of kids out there, coming to terms with being true to who they are, they shouldn’t have to take it.”
