An undocumented immigrant who is a registered sex offender was charged with sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl while out on immigration bond, reported CBS News. Republican presidential candidates, especially Donald Trump, will likely use this tragedy as the next anti-immigrant talking point.
The victim was found in Keane Dean’s garage after being reported missing. She told authorities that after befriending Dean, he took her home and sexually assaulted her. Dean, who is from the Philippines, was placed in immigration detention last year after getting arrested for burglary and indecent exposure. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) said that officials are seeking Dean’s deportation. This is the second high-profile story regarding an undocumented immigrant committing a devilish crime.
Earlier in July, a San Francisco woman was shot and killed by a Mexican immigrant. The murder sparked the immigration debate in America, especially among Republican candidates. Still riding the wave of his racist comments about Mexican immigrants, Trump used the murder to further propel his vicious, anti-immigration rhetoric. We can expect Republicans to use Dean’s case to do the same.
Using tragedies to appeal to the public is the GOP fear machine’s favorite tactic. Republicans capitalize on the fear and ignorance of their constituents to drive their message of hate and xenophobia.
