Republicans are happy to tout that they are the party that supports our troops. It sounds good. It plays well with their constituents. But they’re also the party that’s most eager to throw troops into harm’s way and least likely to take care of those troops once they have served their country. That’s why it’s no surprise that the latest efforts from the Obama administration and Democrats to increase the pay of military personnel have been curtailed by Republican legislators.

An increase is proposed to go into effect on January 1, 2016. It will increase the pay for civilians by 1 percent and members of the armed services will receive a 1.3 percent increase. The raise is not anywhere near what the troops deserve, and Democrats have recognized that.

As IfYouOnlyNews reports:

The increase is the most that the president can do without having to go to Congress, who, as they’ve shown in the past, are more than happy to throw the military under the bus: Earlier in the year, Senate Democrats proposed a 3.8% increase for all federal workers, but the Republicans shot it down.

Expect the Republicans to allow this pay adjustment to go by without much attention. They don’t want anyone looking at how they don’t actually take care of troops.
