Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton will unveil a plan designed to unravel Citizens United and end the plague of big money in politics, reported the Huffington Post. There’s one problem: Clinton is funded by big money.
Does she really expect us to believe that she will land such a hit against her Wall Street pals?
Below is a portion of the statement released by her campaign:
We have to end the flood of secret, unaccountable money that is distorting our elections, corrupting our political system, and drowning out the voices of too many everyday Americans. Our democracy should be about expanding the franchise, not charging an entrance fee. It starts with overturning the Supreme Court’s Citizens United decision, and continues with structural reform to our campaign finance system so there’s real sunshine and increased participation.
As of June, Clinton has raised more campaign funds than the other candidates, including Republicans. Much of that money has come from large corporations and Wall Street. What’s worse for Clinton, it’s 14 months until the election and she has already burned through nearly half of her funds. Looks like she may be asking her corporate overlords for more money. They will want favors in return.
Clinton must really think we are stupid. There’s no way in hell that she’s going to cripple money in politics so easily; that’s how her many large donors keep a stranglehold on the Beltway.
