Well, it’s official – Sarah Palin wants our elected leaders to be just as dumb as she is.
In a recent interview with CNN, Palin admitted that she would rather have a president who is tough than one who can win at Trivial Pursuit. She then added that she doesn’t think Americans give a flying flip about who is leading a foreign country since those leaders will eventually change.
Those of us who have paid any attention at all to politics since 2008 have known that Palin is not the brightest person, but her latest comments show that she has officially become the dumbest person in both the media and politics today.
But her ignorance is more of an example of what America has become rather than the catalyst to dumbing it down. As a society, we’ve grown to accept the fact that we have below average members of Congress and governors, and when Bush was in office, as the leader of the free world. In the 2000 election, voters were asked which candidate they would rather have a beer with. The media dumbed down the presidential election to the point that we were choosing a candidate based on who would be more fun at a party.
Why didn’t they ask who we’d rather sit down and have a conversation about foreign policy with? They could have asked who we would trust more to watch our children. Or who we would want to discuss literature with. But no, they boiled it down into the dumbest possible question, and the politicians followed.
And that’s why Sarah Palin is still relevant today. When we have a public where one-third of them actually listen to this woman and agree with her, then we do have a problem, and that’s why we have to keep talking about this. People like Sarah Palin are dumbing down political discourse in America, and that ignorance is being reflected in our leadership. We can do better, and we deserve better. So, for the love of God people, stop listening to Sarah Palin.
