On September 23rd, Jeremy McDole, a 28-year-old, paralyzed, nursing home resident was shot and killed by police officers in Wilmington, Delaware. The state Department of Justice is now investigating.

Bystander video appears to show that McDole had no weapon; his hands are visible and can be seen to be empty at multiple points in the video.

During a press conference Thursday, McDole’s family argued that their son was not armed and that officers murdered him.

“This was murder,” said Phyllis McDole. “He shot my son like he was roadkill.”

“He wasn’t bothering anybody. He didn’t have a weapon or anything,” she said. “They shot my son so much he fell out of the wheelchair. He fell out the chair and on the ground. He wasn’t armed. He didn’t have a gun. He died by himself. He died alone.”

The officers involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave, pending the conclusion of the Deleware Department of Justice.
