An investigation conducted by the Missouri Attorney General found no evidence that the Planned Parenthood branch in St. Louis engaged in any unlawful activity or mishandled fetal tissue.
Attorney General Chris Koster in July launched an investigation into the St. Louis clinic after an anti-abortion group released heavily-edited and falsified “sting” videos that attempted to demonize the women’s health agency. “We have discovered no evidence whatsoever to suggest that Planned Parenthood’s St Louis facility is selling fetal tissue,” said Koster in a press release.
The investigation consisted of interviews with Planned Parenthood employees and a review of documents which showed the St. Louis clinic operates within the bounds of the law. In a recent wave, conservatives in different states have launched several legislative attacks against the agency.
Alabama, Louisiana, and Arkansas have aimed to interrupt Medicaid funding for Planned Parenthood. That funding also helps with contraception and screenings for cancer and STDs. Lawmakers in Wisconsin’s House passed a bill to cut off federal funding to Planned Parenthood offices in the state. The bill awaits approval by the state senate and Gov. Scott Walker’s signature.
Despite several different courts and officials saying that Planned Parenthood is on the up-and-up, conservatives are still continuing their war against women’s reproductive freedom.
