As the race for party nominations ramps up, candidates are stepping up their pander game and it seems to go both ways. While candidates want to connect with younger adults by associating themselves with pop culture icons, some pop culture icons are associating themselves with candidates.
One of the strangest pairs to have emerged is Ben Carson and Kanye West and Trevor Noah has something to say about it.
“Look, I understand the need to pander but I don’t think you two even know who you’re pandering to,” said Noah. “Kanye man, do your research. You can’t just look for the black guy, you’re picking a president – not who’s on your basketball team. Just look at the things Ben Carson says.”
Noah then played a clip of Ben Carson saying, “Because of our faith, because of our family, because of our values, and as we allow the hip-hop community to destroy those things for us… we continue to deteriorate.”
Noah said, “Yeah, we continue to deteriorate. And I’m sure Dr. Ben Carson could find something he likes about hip hop. For example, the rampant homophobia. You see? You guys have more in common than you think.”
