The Church of Scientology may soon be getting kicked out of Belgium. Members of the church were called to a courtroom in Brussels on Monday to answer for charges of extortion, fraud, violating privacy laws, running a criminal organization, and practicing illegal medicine. If the church is found guilty, Belgium may ban it from the country.
The Huffington Post reports:
The charges, leveled against 11 senior members of the group, are the result of two separate investigations by Belgian authorities: one in 1997, spurred by complaints from former members, and one in 2008, after an employment agency accused the church of trying to convert people to whom it had offered fake jobs, reports AFP.
The church has been convicted of fraud before, but this is the first time that the church may actually face expulsion from a country.
