It seems that every time there is a shooting or some incident of gun-involved violence gun sales spike on the conservative hype and hysteria that President Obama will use the tragedy as a platform to launch his attempt to take away Americans’ guns. At a recent law enforcement event, President Obama directly addressed that notion.
“Every time a mass shooting happens one of the saddest ironies is suddenly the purchase of guns and ammunition jumps up because folks scared into thinking that Obama’s gonna use this as an excuse to take away our Second Amendment rights,” said Obama at the International Association of Chiefs of Police Conference in Chicago. “Nobody’s doing that.”
“We’re talking about common-sense measures to make sure criminals don’t get them,” he said. “To make sure background checks work. To make sure that we’re protecting ourselves.”
He also asked those in the audience to not be swayed by the propaganda they hear on television and the airwaves claiming that he is out for guns.
“Some of you are watching certain television stations or listening to certain radio programs,” said Obama. “Please do not believe this notion that somehow I’m out to take everybody’s guns away.”
