In accordance with tradition in honoring former vice presidents, Dick Cheney will have his likeness immortalized in the United States Capitol. So, any vice president gets a statue of himself regardless of whether they’re a mass murdering warmonger?
There was a Senate resolution “authorizing the use of Emancipation Hall in the Capitol Visitor Center for the unveiling of the marble bust of Vice President Richard Cheney on December 3, 2015.” The resolution has not been officially introduced, but it was confirmed by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s (R-KY) office this week.
The practice began in 1898 when the U.S. Senate passed a resolution estbalishing the tradition.
Marble busts of those who have been Vice Presidents of the United States shall be placed in the Senate wing of the Capitol from time to time, [and] that the Architect of the Capitol is authorized, subject to the advice and approval of the Senate Committee on Rules and Administration, to carry into execution the object of this resolution.
Cheney doesn’t deserve such an honor.
