At the G20 summit last week, Russian president Vladimir Putin revealed that his officials had uncovered private citizens in 40 countries who have funded ISIS.
“I provided examples based on our data on the financing of different Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) units by private individuals. This money, as we have established, comes from 40 countries and, there are some of the G20 members among them,”
Putin would not publicly identify the 40 nations but did call for the illegal trade of oil with ISIS to cease. While the funding to the IS comes from private citizens in many countries, the illegal trade of oil is done on a governmental level and it should be brought to an end.
