On the Wednesday edition of Morning Business Report, host of the BBC show Aaron Heslehurst made the extreme suggestion that dismantling the NRA was key in reducing gun violence and mass shootings in America.
“The thing that everyone points to is the Second Amendment. But the Second Amendment was set up in 1789. That was a different world then and something needs to be done about this.”
“And you go where’s the priority? You talk about Congress — NRA, right? If Clinton really wants to get serious, that’s what you have to try to break, dismantle.”
Hestlehurst’s view of America as an outsider fails, like any other non-American’s view, to consider the vast diversity in America and the effect those differences have on arriving at a unifying opinion about such a politicized issue. Dismantling the NRA might never be more than a distant dream as a large part of America would go absolutely insane if the government moved in on ‘murican guns in that way.
