On Monday, Senator Bernie Sanders unveiled his comprehensive and realistic plan for handling climate change in America which covers nearly every element of the issue from eliminating fossil fuel interests in politics to supporting and incorporating successful energy saving methods and alternative energy sources.
Sen. Sander’s plan, which has been posted on his campaign website, simplifies Bernie’s ideas into five easy-to-digest parts:
- Reclaim our Democracy from the billionaire fossil fuel lobby.
Sen. Sanders points a finger at the vast amount of money fossil fuel lobbyists and interests are currently funneling into U.S. politics through direct and indirect contributions. In his plan, Sanders promises to “[b]an fossil fuels lobbyists from working in the White House.”
2. Accelerate a just transition away from fossil fuels.
Senator Sanders would prevent any future fracking from federal lands or waters, leaving remaining fossil fuels underground where they will no longer contribute to climate change.
3. Invest in clean, sustainable energy.
In his plan, Sanders places an emphasis on solar energy which he says will add ten times as many jobs as an equivalent investment in coal.
4. Revolutionize our electric and transportation infrastructure.
In an exciting promise, Senator Sanders has put forth an idea for a high-speed rail system for both passengers and cargo in an effort to reduce a gigantic portion of the U.S. emissions that lies in transportation. Sanders also wants to invest in electrical vehicle charging infrastructure in order to make electric cars more feasible.
5. Lead the international community to solve climate change and prevent international conflict.
Climate change is an international crisis and a threat to the security of our nation and all other civilized nations of the world. The U.S. needs to work with other nations globally in order to achieve climate change goals in order to “maintain American economic strength and global security.”
