It’s a possibility that Progressives have speculated about and even hoped for for a long time: That Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders will team up in the most perfect example of true honest politics in the history of the 21st century. That hope is now a step closer to becoming reality as Presidential candidate Bernie Sanders suggested on Wednesday that he is considering progressive Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren as his pick for vice president. On the “Nightly Show,” Bernie was asked:
“A lot of people would like to see you run with someone that rhymes with Elizabeth Schwarren ”
“Have you put some thought in your running mate — Would you ever hint at something like that?”
Bernie’s reply:
“Elizabeth Warren is a very good friend of mine…she is a great Senator…she has stood up to Wall Street [and] Big Money interests. She and I will work together.”
This is welcome news for progressives, as well as anyone else who is sick and tired of banksters and Wall Street criminals bleeding us all dry for their own gain. Even if the vice presidency has little political power beyond presiding over the Senate and casting a tie-breaking vote when necessary, a strong and charismatic vice president can wield considerable influence.
Senator Elizabeth Warren has a great deal to contribute to a Bernie Sanders candidacy (including appealing to voters who gravitate toward Hillary Clinton based on her gender alone). Warren’s status as running mate will add even more Progressive fuel to the “Bern.”
