Ted Cruz, clearly one of the slimiest politicians that has ever worn a tie, showed us all on Thursday night why he is a national debate champion when he was faced with the growing “Birther” issue which Trump had recently brought to the forefront of the conversation.

The audience, who were particularly vocal on Thursday nights with their “oohs” and “boos,” seemed appalled that the moderator would even bring up the eligibility question, but what he really did was give Ted Cruz the opportunity he needed to kill and bury the question once and for all.

For one of the first times, Trump seemed legitimately cornered as Cruz pointed out that mere months ago, Trump said that his lawyers concluded that Cruz was eligible to be president, and that it wasn’t until the poll numbers started moving around that Trump felt threatened enough to bring out the Birther issue.

This was the point in which the crowd apparently morphed into a roaring Jerry Springer audience, circa 2001.

Cruz then somehow convinced the audience, if only the tiniest bit, that maybe Trump wasn’t eligible to be president because his mother was born in Scotland. Trump denied that, but the fact that he even had to say those words was pure victory for Cruz.

Then he used what is the equivalent of a debate-style “yo momma” joke, saying,”I’m not gonna use your mother’s birth against you.”

The look on Trump’s face alone is worth watching.
