On Thursday morning, the FBI began to arrest former and current Department of Corrections officers in connection with drug trafficking and bribery.

49 officers and guards have been arrested as a part of the sting. Those arrested during Thursday’s roundup came from at least eight different prisons.

The officers appear to have worn their uniforms while performing trafficking duties in order to prevent police scrutiny, assisting traffickers. An FBI agent is believed to have been working undercover posing as a dealer, which may have been how the Georgia officers were discovered.

This crackdown is the latest of a larger work which so far has indicted around 130 people including prison inmates, employees, and others accused of helping and protecting a major high-level drug trafficker in Georgia.
