Even if Donald Trump manages to garner the magical number of delegates needed to avoid a convention (he won’t), and even if the Republican party relents and allows Trump to be their nominee (they probably won’t), Donald Trump will absolutely not become the president of the united states because too much of the population can’t stand his orange, coiffed, racist, misogynistic guts.
Trump has never been very popular among the U.S. population despite his growing success in the Republican party, but the non-Republican view of Trump is now at an all-time low.
One of the most significant polling results that prove that Trump has no chance is the fact that 3 out of 4 women have an unfavorable view of Trump. Notably, the poll that gathered these results was taken before the Trump’s campaign manager was arrested for assaulting a female reporter and before Trump made his most recent controversial abortion comments.
In a more overarching poll, the national unfavorability rating for Trump is currently inline with George Bush’s ratings nearing the end of his second term.
The newest poll conducted says that Trump is viewed unfavorably by:
- 68% of white women
- 80% of 18-to-34-year-olds
- 80% of African-Americans
- 85% of Latinos
Trump is having such a terribly unfavorable effect on the Republican party as a whole nationwide that he threatens to shift the house majority despite current GOP-friendly maps. Even if the Republican party survives the Frankenstein’s monster that is Trump’s campaign, they will emerge bruised and battle-scarred, having to fight to regain the advantages they currently hold.
The best the Republican party can do if Trump is the nominee is to distance themselves the best they can in order to avoid being voted out in a nationwide anti-Republican strategy. GOP officials and politicians are already in a difficult spot, trying to decide whether to push Trump away or embrace him fully. Their decision and the outcome of this race will be the difference between their continued Senate domination and a clean blue sweep in November.
Nevertheless, it seems nearly impossible that Trump will regain a large portion of the American population that can’t stand his guts. Everyone in America knows who Trump is and has formed some sort of opinion on the man. He may be able to sway some portion of that electorate, but it will certainly not be enough to win.
Of course this does not mean that those who oppose Trump should stop fighting or stop taking him seriously. In this, the most unpredictable election year ever, nearly anything is possible. We must remain vigilant and continue to wage war against the hate-inspiring candidate.
