For most of this election cycle, Republican frontrunner Donald Trump has largely ignored Democratic underdog Bernie Sanders, choosing to focus instead on his own Republican opponents and occasionally waving Clinton over the heads of his devoted fans.

On Tuesday, Trump paid a bit of lip service to Sanders on his Twitter account when he suggested that the Democratic Senator was being mistreated by the Democratic party and should do something drastic.

Sanders has previously said that he would not consider running as in Independant, though of course that outcome would almost guarantee the Republicans the election, which is exactly what Trump would love.

But it is a bit bizarre that Trump would reach out to Sanders in this way – does he think that Sanders who hates everything Trump stands for might be interested in what the billionaire has to say? Or is Trump simply capitalizing on what has become a growing rumble in the Democratic party suggesting that Sanders should break from the party which wants to oust him?

Either way, if Sanders were to make the independent run, Trump would take full credit and maybe even write a whole book about it.

As Mike Papantonio has said, the best thing both fringe candidates can do is launch their own independent run in order to break down once and for all the two-party system. It is crystal clear that the nation no longer fits neatly into two tidy ideologies, so maybe this could be the way out for all of us.
