No doubt, Maine governor Paul LePage is in the news far more often than he’d liked to be, and for much less favorable reasons than he would like.
LePage has made news on our site in the past few months for his comments about minorities who he said cross the border into Maine and impregnate “young, white girls.” LePage also suggested that drug dealers should be punished the French way, saying that the state should bring the guillotine back to deal with traffickers.
All of that and more came back to haunt LePage during a recent college commencement speech where LePage stumbled through a clumsy address while facing two measly protest signs.
“It’s an honor to be here, uh, to be here on this rare occasion, at the university where it is named the University of Maine, which is part of our great state and has a great history, uh . . .”
The two individuals held signs that read “LePage: Maine’s Shame” and another which gave LePage a report card with an “F.” The students didn’t shout or interrupt LePage, but nevertheless the criticism was far too harsh for the Governor and he fumbled his speech before leaving the podium, calling the protesters “idiots.”
“I’m sorry, I’m done — I’m just not in the mood.”
“Thank you, you idiots out back there with the signs.”
