Though the Bernie Sanders campaign has continued to break fundraising records week to week and month to month, in the wake of his losses on Tuesday, the Sanders campaign has confirmed that they will be laying off hundreds of staffers nationwide in order to reflect the needs of the campaign.

But never fear, the underdog senator is not ready to throw in the towel – the campaign says that they will be focusing all of their efforts on campaigning in California in an effort to win the delegate-heavy state in June.

Senator Sanders says that the staffers being let go are in states that have already participated in their primaries. Sanders also said that if the campaign makes it to the general, these hardworking staffers will be rehired.

“It will be hundreds of staff members. We have had a very large staff, which was designed to deal with 50 states in this country; 40 of the states are now behind us. So we have had a great staff, great people.”

“If we win this, every one of those great people who have helped us get this far, they will be rehired. But right now, we have to use all of the resources we have and focus them on the remaining states.”

Though the headline may seem like ominous news, the Sanders campaign is clearly trying to maintain a realistic but optimistic view of their chances in the remainder of this primary.
