During a visit to Canada this week, American president Barack Obama received a warm reception from the nation, deepening his budding bromance with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and garnered some well-meaning messages from the Canadian parliament.
The president addressed the sister nation’s parliament, finishing his address by referring to the relationship between the U.S. and Canada as “allies and friends.”
The president then thanked the parliament in French, before receiving a swelling standing ovation. It was then that a chant developed inside the solemn house with members all over the floor shouting,
“Four more years! Four more years!”
Though the president has reached the end of his two constitutional terms, the support from the Canadian parliament is no doubt encouraging.
This will be a bittersweet transition as our northern neighbors dread a possible Donald Trump for U.S. president, a change which will no doubt strain the strong relationship between the two countries.
