Despite the current popular narrative that the big bad U.S.S.R. Russia is out to get the United States by rigging the election in favor of Putin-loving Trump, the Obama administration and the Putin administration have reached a tentative agreement on how to move forward together to handle the conflict in Syria.
This landmark deal means that soon, the world superpowers might make a noticeable difference in terrorism in the war-torn nation.
According to Secretary of State John Kerry:
“Today the United States and Russia are announcing a plan which we hope will reduce violence, reduce suffering and resume movement toward a negotiated peace and a transition in Syria … if followed, has ability to provide a turning point, a moment of change.”
Kerry explained that the agreement, if upheld by both sides, would put pressure on the Assad regime to put a stop to conflict in the nation. Many would consider this goal a long-shot as Russia seems to have a vested interest in keeping the Assad regime comfortable.
“The Obama administration, the United States, is going the extra mile here because we believe that Russia, and my colleague (Lavrov), have the ability to press the Assad regime to stop this conflict and to come to the table and make peace.”
This deal is shaky at best, but if it comes together, will show the value in working together with Russia, despite what the DNC narrative may want you to believe.
Of course, there is a massive difference between Obama’s cautious and adversarial relationship with Putin and the sort of fan-boy admiration we have seen from Trump.
Terse negotiations, not Cold War-era standoffs, created this agreement, and Democrats would do well to take notice.
