Women in the United States have been faced with a difficult and emotional choice during the 2016 presidential election as they try to grasp the historical significance of electing our first female president while having to settle for the fact that that first woman is in fact Hillary Clinton.
While young children, girls especially, will only know Clinton by her milestone in their own lives, those of us old enough to know better are at quite a conflict about whether or not mourn or celebrate Clinton’s success.
A group of Libertarian women sought to express this conflict of interest in a video posted online recently. Though the video initially seems to be a sort of “Rah rah” feminist clip, it quickly morphs into something else entirely.
The women express gratitude and joy at the fact that the president who will now be slaughtering innocents worldwide via intrusive drone programs will now have a vagina – yay!
Whether or not you are glad that we are about to have our first female president, it is hard to ignore the legitimacy of these women’s grievances. While it’s a meaningful milestone, to these women it demeans the female gender rather than bolsters it to have a commander in chief be both a global capitalistic murdered, and a lady.
