Since Donald Trump’s victory on November 9, we haven’t heard much from former Republican candidate Ted Cruz. Unlike some of his more eager Republican allies, Cruz has not rushed to Trump’s side in his victory, and there have been no rumors about Cruz’s potential role in a Trump administration.
Nevertheless, the Senator could not stay out of the limelight forever, and over the weekend, Cruz was cornered when he was asked to reflect on past statements he has made about the President-elect.
During the primary, things got particularly heated between Cruz and Trump, and at one point, the Senator called his opponent a pathological liar – an apt description. But being on-record calling the president-elect and head of your party a liar is not an easy place to be, which is what Cruz discovered during an interview on ABC.
Host Martha Radditz quizzed Cruz about his Trump opinions, asking him if he still believes Trump is a liar.
Cruz refused to say whether or not he felt Trump is a liar – because he is.
“You know, I’m not going to re-litigate the past. I’m going to focus on the future. I’m going to focus on what’s in front of us.”
Something tells me that he’s not winning any Supreme Court appointments with that attitude!
There have been moments in this election when one could almost feel proud of Cruz for the way he stood up to Donald Trump, but overall, he will emerge from this election as more of a loser than a winner.
