Thanks to Green party’s Jill Stein and her efforts to force a recount in several states, President-elect Trump has once again gone off-topic, this time to try and defend his presidential win.

As he is wont to do, thin-skinned Trump tried to head-off the legitimacy of the recount by saying that his loss in the popular vote was due to millions of illegal votes – a serious and false allegation.

Trump accused Stein of raising money for a recount to fill her party’s coffers and then accused Clinton of hypocrisy. He quoted Clinton’s remarks from the final debate where she expressed alarm and outrage at comments made by Trump when he indicated that he would not accept the results of the election. Of course at the time, Trump’s refusal to accept the results meant civil unrest, destruction, and even death.

It was then that Trump made his demonstrably false claim:

In addition to this being a complete falsehood, if Trump truly believed that the election he participated in was subject to massive fraud – millions of illegitimate votes – wouldn’t that also invalidate his win? But of course to the Orange monstrosity, every single “illegal” vote was for the losing candidate, not the winner.

Trump’s win for the presidency was due to electoral votes, while weeks after the election, Clinton’s popular vote continues to grow. When Clinton’s lead reached the two million votes, Jill Stein began her efforts to demand a recount in several states, starting in Wisconsin.

Millions contributed to the funding necessary to call for a recount, and they are hoping that the count in Wisconsin takes place soon.

In the meantime, Trump should of course realize the important position he is in and work toward unifying the nation rather than dividing it. It’s a message we expect to repeat ad nauseum for the next four years – or until this horrible man is removed from office.
