Though Vice President Joe Biden seemed to be mostly joking when he told reporters earlier this week that he was already preparing to run for president in 2020, Biden has not stopped mentioning it.
During an appearance on Stephen Colbert’s “The Late Show,” the Vice President addressed the elephant in the room when he mentioned how old he would be in 2020.
“I don’t plan on running again, but to say you know what’s gonna happen in four years I just think is not rational,” Biden said. “Never say never. You don’t know what’s going to happen. I mean, hell, Donald Trump’s going to be 74; I’ll be 77, in better shape.”
Considering that Donald Trump is soon to become the oldest president in U.S. history, trying to run in 2020 at 77 is quite the long-shot. But as Biden said, the difference between 74-year-old Trump and 77-year-old Biden is maybe not as insurmountable as it once was.
And even if Biden doesn’t actually run in 2020, you can’t blame the man for trying to give a bit of hope to the brokenhearted Democrats whose party is in shambles and whose political influence is slipping through their fingers.
If we all believe that we might get to see Uncle Joe going head-to-head with Trump, we might have the strength to make it these next four years.
