In the GOP’s rabid quest to repeal the Affordable Care Act with no feasible replacement in sight, only the strongly-worded statements of their political opponents may serve to smack some sense into them and drum up public pressure to prepare a replacement before the healthcare plan is fully repealed.

Dependably, Senator Bernie Sanders has been the chiefest of those opponents, calling on President-elect Trump to protect his constituents by maintaining their healthcare, despite the political chess.

Speaking on the Senate floor, Sanders attempted to convey just how serious it would be to pull the Obamacare rug out from under the millions of Americans who depend upon it for comprehensive healthcare. For millions, losing the ACA could mean losing their opportunity to seek healthcare at all – and for some, ultimately, death.
Said Sanders:

“Up to 30 million Americans will lose their healthcare, with many thousands dying as a results. Because if you have no health insurance, and you can’t go to a doctor or a hospital, you die.”

But as he has made clear in weeks past, the Vermont Senator isn’t just concerned about the loss of the ACA, but also the planned gutting of government health programs.

“Medicare will be converted into a voucher program. Medicaid will be decimated. Rural hospitals will be closed. And they have no alternative proposition. They want to kill ACA but they have no idea about how they’re going to bring forth a substitute proposal.”
