The media is awash with quotes from President Trump’s interview with Time – this interview dealt with Trump’s view of truth and fiction as he took the White House. Most outlets are going full-on Buzzfeed-style when they are covering the interview with outrageously headlined listicles like “9 biggest WTF quotes from Trump’s interview.” Trump did say some pretty stupid things in his interview – I mean some real idiotic things. But, he did – perhaps unwittingly – make his best points about the fake news. Ring of Fire’s Josh Gay discusses this.

When pressed about his crazy claims, Trump has started with his now tired “I’m just repeating what I heard in the news” defense. Well – he is right – he parroted news reports from the mainstream media and those reports were FLAT OUT WRONG.

His false claims came from The New York Times, The Washington Post, Politico, and Fox News. But While Donald Trump has to be held to the highest standard as President, our news media needs to be looked at with a critical eye as well.

Now everyone has a voice and choice – with endless blogs and openly slanted sites – LIKE THIS ONE – people increasingly have the option of only consuming information they believe in. Because of that, competition in the media is as fierce as it has ever been. Ratings and clicks are the only way most sites justify their existence with advertising revenue, so they fight ever each and every one. This means that even mainstream media is forced to peddle sensationalism and editorialized content just to keep up. They are simply keeping up with the times.

We have demanded that the media put out information that we want to see. In turn, trust in the media is at its all time low.

I’ve said this before if the public REALLY wanted “Fair and Balanced” information, C-Span would have the highest ratings. Instead, we want some talking head to pontificate from his studio under the guise of reporting.

Corporate media is dead – yeah they may occasionally raise their hand from the grave like a zombie – but they are not coming back.

President Trump is USUALLY wrong and his attacks on the media are USUALLY wrong. But, he is right – the media is increasingly wrong too.
