Nearly four months ago, Donald Trump won the presidency in an upset, defeating opponent Hillary Clinton despite the three million votes she earned over him in the popular vote. Trump is the winner, he is the president, and he sleeps each night (when not in Mar-A-Lago) in a bed at the White House.
Despite all of this – despite having “it all” in the most literal use of that phrase, Trump spent a moment of his time on Monday morning taking a trip down memory lane and reminding us all that the opponent he defeated in November of 2016 had done something wrong.
Nestled in between a tweet about John Podesta and another one of his infamous “Fox says” tweets, the President reminded us:

It’s no secret why Trump felt the need to lash out on some leak-related news, no matter how old. When he sends messages like this, they are meant exclusively for his base. A base that would remain devoted to him through nearly everything; a base who is desperate to continue their fiery hatred of Hillary Clinton.
But Trump’s specific choice of this crime, out of all of the things he could criticize Clinton for, is also an appeal to disgruntled supporters of Sanders, many of whom are still steaming about how they’ve been treated by the DNC. Trump’s timing seems especially interesting in this context as a new wave of anti-progressive sentiment seems to be rising from the moderate left.
Unfortunately for the rest of his, this too-late attack on a has-been political figure is a sign that our president has no real intention of taking his office seriously. With thousands of other things that could and should be on his mind, the leader of our nation is spending his time stewing over the woman he defeated.
He is so furious that the American people can’t stand him (new record low favorable rating reached 35 percent last week) that he needs to point his finger at another target, anything, to distract from his monumental failure of a presidency.
