In the latter portion of the Senate hearing surrounding Former FBI Director James Comey, significant attention was diverted from the issue at hand when Senator John McCain began his questioning and appeared, by most accounts, to be close to incoherent.

McCain rambled and mumbled, appearing to confuse two separate investigations that Comey was involved in during his line of questioning. He often rambled on long, confusing sentences which made the viewer forget the beginning of the question by the time he arrived at the end.

Viewers immediately noticed something seemed off about the former presidential candidate and long-time Senator. Was he suffering from dementia or another cognitive impairment?

At one point, McCain’s rambling landed on a shocking question: why didn’t Comey prosecute Hillary Clinton for potentially helping the Russians to hack the election? If that question seems utterly incoherent and nonsensical, it’s because it is.

Some tried to poke fun at the Senator, a man who has gained a reputation as of late for pretending to be critical of Trump while going along with his every political move.

Others came to his defense, suggesting that whatever McCain was suffering from today deserves sympathy, not ridicule.

Others still suggested that McCain doesn’t deserve a pass because other colleagues more senior in age were able to carry out successful questioning.

Whatever the reason, we hope McCain’s foggy mind clears up soon. In the meantime, watching McCain’s testimony today was a good of an example as any other why term limits may be a good idea.
