Ohio governor John Kasich issued a vague threat to the Republican Party this past weekend – either get yourself fixed (or let me fix you) or I’m leaving. Kasich’s threat could easily be viewed as a potential setup for a bid for Presidency as an Independent, though he has repeatedly denied that’s what he’s doing. But, as Ring of Fire’s Farron Cousins explains, Kasich is not some kind of moderate version of a Republican – he’s just as bad as the rest of them and he can’t save his dying party.

John Kasich, the Republican Governor of Ohio, told CNN recently that, “If the Republican party cannot be fixed, if I can’t fix it, if nobody else can come in there and fix it, then they’re not going to be able to count on my support and I’m not going to be part of it. It’s as simple as that.”
Well, here’s what John Kasich is actually trying to say in this interview. John Kasich wants to be president. We know that because he literally ran for president in the 2015 primaries through 2016, before dropping out because nobody wanted to support him. So, what Kasich is doing here by saying, “The Republican party is broken, it’s blasted, it’s horrible. We’ve got to fix it or I’m out.” He’s setting up the framework necessary to run as a third party candidate, probably an independent, for 2020, assuming, he is assuming Donald Trump is still going to be in office and be running for reelection.
That is what Kasich is doing here. He doesn’t care anything about fixing the Republican part. Why? Because he’s one of the biggest problems with it. John Kasich as Governor of Ohio does not support a woman’s right to choose. He actively engaged in disenfranchising thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of African-American Democratic voters both in 2014 and 2016. He does everything that the other Republicans do, he just does it on the sly. He does it a little more covertly.
He is exactly like these other Republican jackasses that we have in office, the only difference is he pretends that he’s not and people buy into it. There is no difference between a John Kasich or a Lindsey Graham, or a Ted Cruz, or a Paul Ryan, or a Donald Trump. All of these men are cut from the same clothe ladies and gentlemen. John Kasich is not going to be the savior of the Republican party. All he wants to do is get more power and more authority and run for president. If he can’t do it as a Republican, as he says here, “I’m going to do it as an independent.” Even though he swears he’s totally not going to do that, ladies and gentlemen.
John Kasich wants to be president and if he is, no matter what banner he runs under, he is absolutely going to be just like every other Republican president that we have seen in the last 30 or 40 years, a supporter or trickle down economics, a supporter of stripping women of the right to choose, a supporter of ending social safety net programs like social security and MediCare and MedicAid. He’s going to be in favor of destroying the Affordable Care Act and stripping 32 million people in this country of their health insurance. That is John Kasich in a nutshell, because that is every member of the Republican party in a nutshell.
